GUS BROWN GOLF CLASSIC fundraiser

For each of its first nine years, the Annual Gus Brown Golf Classic would raise on average $5000. The Gus Brown team felt satisfied enough. They never imagined being able to raise much more.

Then in 2004 they were approached by Uncommon Results’ Jim Szeman and the Oshawa Hospital Foundation. In this new collaboration, the Gus Brown team discovered the untapped potential for their event and revived aspirations for how it could help the community. With his strategic insights and event management skills, Jim led a series of pivotal changes in everything from marketing to location. Year after year the event raised more money, achieving $26,000 in the first year, then leap-frogging from $30,000 to $70,000 to $100,000. Annual targets now confidently exceed $100,000, with the event attracting major business owners and partners.

The Annual Gus Brown Golf Classic is now a well-recognized event that reaches far beyond the realm of golf—with activities at each hole, a live and silent auction, and celebrity announcers and players. Every year the event is sold out far in advance, with businesses and players eagerly snatching up their tickets.
